The problem we kept running into
AI has become a normal part of teenage life — for homework, for curiosity, and increasingly for company. But most of the popular tools were designed for adults and had safety features added on later, if at all. Independent reviews keep finding the same things: chatbots that drift into inappropriate territory, that handle a struggling teen poorly, and that give parents almost no visibility into what's going on. The most serious cases in this space have been heartbreaking.
Like a lot of parents, we didn't want to simply hand a child an unrestricted adult chatbot — and we didn't want to pretend AI would just go away either. We wanted a third option: an AI a teenager could genuinely enjoy, built from the start to be safe, with a parent in control.
Who's behind it
SproutKid is built and run by TomicSwissTech, an independent software studio based in Switzerland. It started as a personal project — the tool we wished existed for our own family — and grew into a product we felt other parents could use. Being small and independent is part of the point: we answer to parents, not to advertisers or an engagement target.
Our promise, in one line
Safety and parent control come first — always ahead of engagement, growth, or anything else.
What we stand for
Safety as the foundation, not an add-on
Every message a teen sends and every reply they get is screened, and SproutKid is designed to block sexual and violent content. If a conversation shows signs of distress, it takes that seriously, encourages reaching out to a trusted adult, and points to local help — rather than carrying on as if nothing's wrong.
Parents in control
A parent sets up and manages the account. You can see and manage how it's used, set an optional profile PIN, and delete a conversation, a profile, or the whole account whenever you want. Control isn't a buried setting — it's the model.
Honest about what it is
SproutKid reminds your teen that it's an AI — not a person, and not a replacement for friends, family, or professionals. We're not trying to build something a teenager mistakes for a real relationship.
No ads, no selling data
We don't show advertising and we don't sell personal data. SproutKid is paid for by a simple subscription, which keeps our incentives pointed at being genuinely good for your child — not at keeping them glued to a screen.
Built to respect privacy
We collect as little as we can, we're clear about it in our Privacy Policy and Children's Privacy page, and we use AI providers on terms where your child's conversations aren't used to train their models.
Where we're headed
We're a young product, and we're improving constantly — listening to parents, tightening safety, and adding the things families ask for. If you have feedback, a worry, or an idea, we genuinely want to hear it: support@sproutkid.ai.
