Children's Privacy
This page is written in English, which is the legally authoritative version.

SproutKid is built for teenagers aged 13–18, so protecting children's data is at the centre of how we work. This page explains, in plain terms, what we collect from a child, how a parent stays in control, and the safety choices we have made. It sits alongside our full Privacy Policy.
1. Our commitment
2. Ages we serve
SproutKid is for teenagers aged 13 to 18. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13. When a child profile is created, the date of birth entered is checked, and a profile that does not meet the minimum age of 13 is blocked. If you believe a profile for a child under 13 has been created, contact us at support@sproutkid.ai and we will remove it.
3. Parental consent
Only a parent or legal guardian aged 18 or over can set up and pay for SproutKid. When you create the subscription, you give consent for your teenager's use of the service. We keep a record of that consent (the statement you agreed to, the date, and the IP address) so we can show that valid consent was given. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting the child's profile or the account.
4. What we collect from a child, and why
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| First name or chosen nickname | So the companion can address the child |
| Year of birth only (not the full date) | To confirm the child is at least 13 |
| Companion settings (name, theme, personality, voice) | To personalise the experience |
| Optional country | To show the correct local help resources if ever needed |
| Optional 4-digit profile PIN (stored as a hash) | So a parent can restrict who opens the profile |
| Messages with the companion, and its responses | So conversations continue across sessions and safety filtering can be applied |
We do not ask a child for their address, phone number, school, or other contact details, and the companion is instructed not to collect them.
5. How your child's messages are processed by AI
To answer a question, your child's message (and any image or video they attach) is sent to our AI provider, Google (Gemini API), and the text is also checked by OpenAI's safety moderation. We use these providers on their paid/commercial terms, under which your child's conversations are not used to train their AI models and are processed only to return a response or a safety result. Attachments are used to generate a response and are not stored on our servers.
6. Safety by design
- Filtering on every message. Both what a child sends and what the companion replies are screened, and the service is designed to block sexual and violent content.
- Crisis awareness. If a message suggests a child may be in danger or distress, the companion encourages them to talk to a trusted adult and can show local help-line information. SproutKid is not an emergency service — in an emergency, contact local emergency services.
- No advertising and no data sales. We do not run ads or sell personal data.
- Minimal data. We keep only what is needed to run the service safely.
No automated system is perfect. We encourage parents to stay involved in how their teenager uses SproutKid.
7. What a parent can do (your controls)
Signed in to the parent account, you can at any time:
- review your child's conversation history;
- delete a child's conversation history;
- delete an entire child profile;
- delete the whole account and all associated data;
- set, change, or remove a profile PIN (this requires your account password);
- set or change a child's country for local help resources.
For anything you cannot do in the app, email support@sproutkid.ai. We may need to verify that you are the account holder before acting.
8. How long we keep a child's data
We keep a child's profile and conversation history while the account is active. When you delete the history, the profile, or the account, it is removed from our active systems within 30 days. Records that show valid parental consent and age-gating may be kept for a limited period afterwards to meet our legal obligations. See the Privacy Policy for full retention details.
9. A note on regional rules
Different countries set different ages at which a young person can consent to online services on their own (for example, this ranges from 13 to 16 across the EU under the GDPR, and United States rules under COPPA apply specifically to children under 13). SproutKid does not serve children under 13, and we require a parent or guardian to set up and consent to the account regardless of where you live, so that an adult is always involved.
